Autobiography of Fairy C. Hayes-Scott, Ph.D.

Dr. Fairy C. Hayes-Scott is a Professor of English Composition and Literature at Mott Community College. Dr. Hayes-Scott earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor. For fifteen of her forty years of tenure at MCC, she, also, taught American Sign Language and lecture courses focusing on different aspects of Deafness. In the state and reportedly in the United States, she began the first English writing course for only Deaf students at a hearing college. Dr. Hayes-Scott has written four books, edited an international journal of literature, a book for educators, parents, collection of works by her students, and written articles. Dr. Fairy, affectionately referred to by her students, has received various honors for teaching, with one of the greatest having CM 2024, a classroom at her college, named in her honor.

Dr. Fairy is a businesswoman. Her companies are Robbie Dean Press, L.L.C. (RDP) a traditional textbook publishing and MarketingNewAuthors.com (MANA), a self-publishing company offering a wide range of services. Dr. Fairy began RDP in 1991 and MANA in 2002. In 2008, the U.S. Local Business Association selected MANA for the award for the Best of Ann Arbor Award in the Marketing & Publishing category. Continuing for her 25th year in the publishing industry, her business experience goes beyond publishing, marketing, and distribution. Dr. Fairy has managed to intertwine academia and business to make her companies adjust to the challenges of the economy and the general business world.

Recently, within the last two years, she has become a blogger. She has launched Dr. C’s Academic Cruise in “Dr. C’s Writer’s Sunrise” on the blog on MarketingNewAuthors.com. In 2014, she developed a blog that was a metaphor for her teaching experiences. She served as the captain (professor) and her crew (her students). From the record of followers, it became quite evident this gained a lot of appeal. However, now, there is a different kind of blog; it is a diary. Again, it is gaining a healthy number of followers.

Finally, Dr. Fairy has committed her companies to giving back to local, national, and international communities when disasters have hit. In addition, she has committed her traditional publishing company to give proceeds from the sales of RDP texts to the colleges that adopt these publications. Her publishing companies have authors, clients, and customers from almost every continent. When Dr. Fairy asks her students to describe her, they answer that she is unique, focused, determined, and passionate—characteristics that have made Dr. Fairy C. Hayes-Scott a unique professor and formidable businesswoman.
