About The Book

In order for those of us who are students of the world to be more than automatons not questioning anything read or heard, we need to develop critical thinking skills. To be effective contributing citizens of the world, it is crucial that we question things told to us when and know how to research and consider more than one side to an issue. Unfortunately, that is not what many of us have done; the results have not been for the good of America or other countries. Propaganda—American Style explains why it is crucial to be a critical thinker and provides clear methods for developing these critical thinking skills. This is an excellent text for college composition courses.

About The Author

Dr. Shafer is a professor of English. He has taught students for over twenty years. He has authored several articles and two other English texts—Process and Voice in the Writing Workshop and Linguistics for College Freshmen and Sophomores: Non Majors, Welcome. Dr. Shafer has always be intrigued with how people can use language to include and to exclude, to guide and to manipulate, and to bring peace or instigate chaos. And so, this most current work, Propaganda—American Style truly illustrates his commitment to promoting inclusion, guidance, and peace through the use of words. And he wants to be most certain that people come to appreciate and understand the power of the use of words. Dr. Shafer has dedicated his whole professional career to achieve this goal.
